How to Apply

Learn More

As you consider applying for the Oakland Teaching Fellows program, we strongly encourage you to attend one of our regularly scheduled Information Sessions. Although not required for the application process, Information Sessions give applicants the chance to learn more about this exciting opportunity and hear first-hand from OUSD teachers and current Fellows in the classroom.

Information Sessions can be particularly useful for those who have general questions about the program or for those who may be unsure about applying. If you are interested in attending, we ask that you first read this website carefully–including the FAQ section–to familiarize yourself with the basics of the program.

An Information Session generally includes a brief overview of the program and a question and answer period with an OTF program staff member. Sessions also include participation and insights from a current Fellow and/or OUSD veteran teacher. Information Sessions usually last about one hour and take place at different times and locations throughout the year.

Upcoming Information Sessions:

There will be no further information sessions for the 2010 cohort.

Information Sessions are conducted at:

Oakland Unified School District Administration Building
1025 Second Avenue
Oakland, CA 94606

To register for an upcoming event, please log into your 'My OTF' account and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please note that the Information Session is not a required component of the admissions process for Oakland Teaching Fellows.

Connect to an Oakland Classroom

Fellows selected into the program will join a relentless and focused group of educators who have already dedicated themselves to careers that will hold students in OUSD to the highest standards. Fellows are impressive and devoted individuals who are doing whatever it takes to see their students make significant academic gains.

We recognize that candidates come from diverse backgrounds and experiences and may not have spent time in a school environment for a number of years. Candidates may also have questions specific to a particular subject area assignment. For these reasons, we offer the opportunity to connect with OUSD teachers in classrooms similar to the ones in which Fellows will teach. By connecting with an Oakland teacher, candidates can have questions answered via email or phone, set up a time to talk, or–in some cases–even make a school visit.

Candidates interested in connecting with an Oakland teacher in a specific subject should send an email to Connect@OaklandTeachingFellows.org with the following information in the body of the email:

Name
E-mail address
Phone number
Subject area and grade level of interest
