Interview Events
Once an application has been reviewed for completeness, eligibility, and potential success as a Fellow, the applicant will receive notification of the status of their application within two weeks of our receipt of a complete application. Individuals can check their status by returning to their 'My OTF' homepage. Applicants who have been invited to interview can sign up for an Interview Event through their'My OTF' homepage. Invited candidates should schedule an Interview event date right away, as spots fill up quickly. Interview Events for the 2010 cohort will be held at Oakland school sites.
Interview Events are designed to give our Oakland Teaching Fellows interviewers a strong sense of the many talents that a candidate will use in the classroom. Please note that not all applicants will be invited to an interview event as the application process is highly competitive and Oakland Teaching Fellows only interviews top candidates.
Candidates accepted to teach high-need subject areas will receive a job guarantee to begin teaching in the fall of 2010. Interviewees will be asked to:
- Teach a five-minute lesson to the larger group
- Discuss a specific classroom scenario
- Provide a written response to an educational issue
- Engage in a one-on-one interview with an interviewer from the Fellows program
Interview Events last approximately six hours and include a chance to interact with dynamic Oakland Unified teachers. More specific information about the process is provided in the Interview Event Guide, which candidates receive if they are invited to an Event.
Out-of-Town Candidates
We recognize that some candidates will be traveling to the Bay Area for their interviews and understand that coordinating travel plans for an Interview Event is often difficult. We are generally unable to make scheduling exceptions or accommodate last-minute requests. We encourage candidates to plan ahead and contact us with questions specific to their situations. For candidates traveling to the Bay Area for the Interview Event, we strongly advise that the Interview Event be scheduled and confirmed before making travel arrangements. It is required that candidates interview in person.
