Who We Want
We want people with little or no teaching experience but who are driven to succeed. We want people who have excelled in school and in their careers. We want people driven to do something that matters for the students of Oakland, who will commit to seeing their students achieve and see that commitment through despite multiple challenges.
There is no one profile for an ideal OTF candidate; Fellows span a wide range of ages and backgrounds and bring a diverse set of talents and skills to the program. Click here to learn more about the experiences of some current Fellows in their own words. Strong candidates are those who are committed to having a positive effect on student achievement, who display excellence through their previous endeavors, and who are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to reach and influence students – especially those in under-served areas – on a daily basis.
We are looking for candidates who are interested in teaching in our critical shortage areas. Successful candidates can have an impact by teaching in the field of math, science, special education, Spanish, bilingual education, and physical education. If you have what it takes to inspire children in these subjects, we strongly encourage you to apply now.
