Connect to an Oakland Classroom

Fellows selected into the program will join a relentless and focused group of educators who have already dedicated themselves to careers that will hold students in OUSD to the highest standards. Fellows are impressive and devoted individuals who are doing whatever it takes to see their students make significant academic gains.

We recognize that candidates come from diverse backgrounds and experiences and may not have spent time in a school environment for a number of years. Candidates may also have questions specific to a particular subject area assignment. For these reasons, we offer the opportunity to connect with OUSD teachers in classrooms similar to the ones in which Fellows will teach. By connecting with an Oakland teacher, candidates can have questions answered via email or phone, set up a time to talk, or—in some cases—even make a school visit.

Please keep in mind that our teachers are also busy with classroom and school responsibilities and may not always have the option to meet in person or extend an invitation to visit their schools. While our teachers are happy to share their love of teaching and insight on Oakland schools, we appreciate candidates’ respectful consideration of the teachers whom they contact.
